Tag Rugby Fun Day!
Budding rugby players took part in a Tag Rugby Fun Day at Stow-on-the-Wold rugby club yesterday, sponsored by Warner’s Budgens.
In total, 24 teams consisting of 180 girls and boys from local schools in the area attended the event. The event was run as a Fair Play competition, with teams competing in a mini tournament of six-minute matches on four pitches. Matches were refereed by students from Hartpury College who were looking for examples of good sportsmanship and teamwork rather than the number of tries scored.
According to the competition guidelines, Fair Play includes:
Good sportsmanship, honesty and respect whether you win or lose
Learning to challenge yourself and improve social skills
Taking responsibility for your actions, calling scores and lines clearly and fairly even if it costs you the point
Learning and following the rules and being a role model to younger people
Enjoyment of the sport
At the end of the day four teams won the Fair Play award, one from each pitch. Throughout the tournament, all teams enjoyed refreshments of water, juice, fruit, cereal bars and Haribo sweets, provided by us.
